On March 24, Mr. Zhang Zuqiang, Deputy Administrator of China Meteorological Administration (CMA), met with Mr. Mahr Sahibzad Khan, Director General of Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). Both sides reviewed the cooperation in the field of meteorological science and technology, and consulted on topics like joint development of early warning supporting system, promotion of operational capacity building, and holding of educational training.

Mr. Zhang Zuqiang expressed that China and Pakistan were important member of World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Regional Association II and bilateral cooperation embodied vital significance for meteorological development in the two countries and regional development in Asia. Both sides have conducted fruitful results in terms of meteorological capacity building for China–Pakistan Economic Corridor, information exchange, education, and others. He hoped that both sides would deepen collaboration, jointly promote early warning supporting system construction based on the cloud, reinforce monitoring capacity building in alpine regions in Asia, and elevate disaster preparedness and response to climate change capacity.

Mr. Mahr Sahibzad Khan said that the friendship between Pakistan and China was profound and extended gratitude to CMA for its support for PMD, in particular, the technical support of experts dispatched by CMA when the grave flooding disaster plagued Pakistan in 2022. He anticipated that CMA would consolidate cooperation with PMD in aspects like monitoring, forecasting, hydrology, and telecommunication. He also expressed that Pakistan would continue to support CMA in terms of international meteorological governance.
